Excessive Sweating
HYPERHIDROSIS
Hyperhidrosis
Treatment for Excessive Sweating, Swanage, Dorset
What Is Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. Sweating helps to regulate our body temperature, but unfortunately in some people, sweat is produced in far greater quantities than required, which can be both inconvenient and embarrassing.
Treatment using Botulinum Toxin A blocks the actions of the nerves and the nerve endings in the glands to prevent them from producing sweat.
Botulinum toxin A is used as a treatment for severe sweating when topical medicines do not work satisfactorily.
Prior to treatment the area needs to be freshly shaved or hair no longer than 1 cm in length.
Timescales
The treatment is a series of around 20 injections in a grid pattern, which will take approximately 45 minutes.
You should avoid touching the area for 4 hours after treatment and no exercise for 24 hours.
It is usual to notice a reduction in sweating within 48-72 hours.
Treatment usually lasts in the region of 4 - 7 months and a reduction in sweating can range from 50 - 75% although this will vary from person to person. Very small needles are used so any discomfort is kept to a minimum.
Once sweating starts to increase again to an excessive amount then another session would be advised.
