Wrinkles develop due to many different reasons. During the ageing process we naturally experience a loss of elasticity of the skin; frowning and other facial expressions, sun damage, smoking and even sleeping positions can affect our skin causing lines and wrinkles.
Botulinum Toxin A or Botox® is a highly purified protein used for many years medically before its cosmetic use was utilised.
Botulinum toxin treatment has a dramatic effect on lines, wrinkles and hyperactive muscles. The toxin temporarily blocks the transmission of the nerve impulses to the muscle. This provides a smoother more relaxed look, whilst reducing or sometimes eradicating lines and wrinkles.
The Procedure
The procedure is usually quite comfortable for the client, (similar to plucking an eyebrow hair) and a tiny needle is used to inject small quantities of Botulinum Toxin A.
No anaesthesia is required. you may experience slight redness after the treatment but this usually only lasts 15 - 20 minutes.
It is possible in a small number of cases to have slight localised bruising or swelling. This is usually minimal reduces quickly and can be covered by makeup.
Timescales
The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes depending and areas being treated. You can start to notice a difference with 48-72 hours and full effects will be visible in 10-14 days.
The treatment lasts 3-4 months and you will notice a gradual reduction of the toxin effect, with repeated treatments the effects tend to last longer
10 - 14 days after treatment a review appointment is recommended.
